Tecno has done it again this year, coming up with its flagship device for the year 2017—Tecno Phatom 8. Launched just a few hours ago, precisely on October 22nd 2017. This article takes a quick look at Tecno Phantom 8 Price in Nigeria, Specs and Detailed Review.
One would have thought that after launching Tecno phantom 6 & phantom 6 plus, which was a remarkable successful addition to the smartphone family, Tecno would come up with Tecno phantom 7.
But, guess what! Tecno phantom 7 never happened. Tecno deliberately skipped it in order to produce phantom 8 to complete with the latest additions of high tech phones oozing gr8ness—Samsung Galaxy S8, IPhone 8 and so on.
Take it or leave it, Tecno Mobile has stepped up ahead of what most prejudiced fans of Samsung and iPhone devices call it—a cheap, dirty Samsung or Iphone competitor for low end devices for poor Africans. Tecno now seems to have perfected its craft in terms of software & hardware upgrade.
You would recall that the company penetrated Africa slowly but steadily. Now, it has become the leading phone device in the whole of the continent.
Exactly a year after the Phantom 6 plus was launched, Tecno has kept its promise of wanting to dominate the market and keep pace with its strong competitors. Now to compete favorably with the Galaxy Note S8, Tecno iPhone 8 and Tecno 8 PLUS and Samsung Galaxy Note 8, the company launched a new flagship device, the Tecno Phantom 8 plus.

Tecno Phantom 8 Release Date
Tecno just released its flagship device for the year 2017—Tecno Phatom 8. Launched just a few hours ago, precisely on October 22nd 2017.
Tecno Phantom 8 Design
As far as high quality design innovation is concerned, you will agree with me that indeed, Tecno has stepped up its game well enough. The stunning look of Phantom 8 sets it apart from other Tecno devices.
The back design parades a stylish lighting design– 3D diamond variety, which gives a premium look and elegant finish. A user will find this useful both as a fingerprint magnet and also glossy. The entire body build is fully metallic, having rounded edges for a sleek look.
The front design boasts of a 2.5D coating of glass which makes it a lot easier to handle, as well as gives the phone a great feel.
Compared to Tecno Phantom 6 and Tecno Phantom 6 plus, it won’t be out of place to say the latest Tecno phantom 8 is much slimmer, lighter and of course… much better!
For the design features, Tecno gets an 8/10 here.
Tecno Phantom 8 Display
Earlier versions of Tecno phantoms—Phantom Z, Phantom 5 and of course the more recent Phantom 6—all have a full High Definition display with a resolution capacity of 1080 x 1920px . So, without making things too complicated, Tecno chose to conform to the rituals of having an 1080Px display in the new Tecno Phantom 8.
Sporting a 5.7 inches screen which is about 75% of its body ratio in comparison with the 74% screen size ratio body size found in the Tecno phantom 6. Similar 2.5 found on the Tecno Camon CX is used in Phantom 8. Nevertheless, the screen is protected from scratch. All thanks to the IPS feature as well as the Corny Gorilla glass which is an encouraging scratch-proof innovation.
For the display features, Tecno gets a 7/10 here.
Tecno Phantom 8 Software & Performance
Straight with the version 3 of Tecno custom Operating system HiOS comes the Tecno phantom 8. This device works on the Android 7.0 Nougat but can be updated to the most recent and newest Android OS operating system, Android 8.0 Oreo.
For an efficient multi-tasking ability, Phantom 8 is equipped with a 6GB RAM. Thanks to the highly efficient P25 processor with MediaTek Helio. You can also store up important media and files as much you like. Thanks to the 64GB internal memory the phone is built with.
You can even expand the memory to a whopping 2TB via a Micro SD Card. Isn’t this massive? Sure, you bet it is!
For the software & performance feature, Tecno gets an 8/10 here.
Tecno Phantom 8 Camera Review
The Tecno phantom 8 boasts of dual back cameras which consist of 12MP and 13MP. The 12MP camera happens to be the main back camera. It is an IMX386 sensor from SONY, that is equipped with an f/1.8 lens. The lens has got an improved photography despite low light and a whopping 4K capability.
The sensor has got a pixel size of 1.25 μm which means it will let less light in. A big pixel size means more light absorption.
Some other amazing camera features comprised smart filters, 10X Zoom capabilities, a flash (actually, a TRI LED), refocus portrait mode, Autofocus, Auto HDR, Super pixel and Night mode.
Unfortunately, however, TECNO failed to fully make the best use of the 12MP IMX386 sensor from Sony. This is because the Tecno Phantom 8 has 1080P as the highest video recording quality with the amazing potentials of the sensor, Tecno should have tapped into the possibility of getting a higher video quality for the phone. After all, it is the same camera lens sensor you have on the Xiaomi Mi 6 which performs better.
The SONY sensor (IMX386) has got a pixel size of 1.25 μm. With that capacity, the sensor is expected to make the camera lighter. The bigger the size of the pixel, the lighter it takes in.
For the superb camera features, Tecno gets a 7/10 here.
Tecno Phantom 8 Battery Specs
Battery life is a very important feature to consider when buying an Android phone. The Tecno Phantom 8 is powered by a 3500mAh battery capacity, which I feel is just a little above average.
I would have preferred that Tecno would go the extra mile to employ a higher battery capacity, from 4500mAh and above considering the high end, power-zapping features and specifications of the device.
But interestingly, Tecno went above board to incorporate a very quick charging system in place to ensure that phone can be powered up to 100% back within 60 minutes of charging.
For the average battery capacity, Tecno phantom 8 gets a 6/10 here.
Tecno Phantom 8 Connectivity Options
It is really a good thing that the device is gyroscope enabled. In this period where virtual reality makes life more enjoyable, won’t it be great to have a device equipped with high tech sensors to make your virtual reality a laudable experience.
Other sensors built in the smartphone include, light sensor, gravity sensors, accelerometer, , proximity sensor, compass, magnetometers etc.
For the wonderful myriads of connectivity options, Tecno phantom 8 gets an 8/10 here.
Tecno Phantom 8 price in Nigeria
Tecno is currently sold in the Nigerian market. Tecno Phantom 8 price in Nigeria costs between N135, 000-N150, 000.
No doubt, the phone doesn’t come cheap. However, because of the great features and specifications, the device is really worth it.
For the great features and specifications at the current price the phone is sold for, Tecno phantom 8 gets an 8/10 here.
One would have thought that after launching phantom 6 and phantom 6 plus, which was a remarkable successful addition to the smartphone family, Tecno would come up with Tecno phantom 7. But, guess what! Tecno phantom 7 never happened. Tecno deliberately skipped it in order to produce phantom 8 to complete with the latest additions of high tech phones oozing gr8ness—Samsung Galaxy 8, IPhone 8 and so on.
In conclusion, I have to admit that indeed the Tecno Phantom 8 phone is an excellent phone and worth every money spent on it. I highly recommend it.
